A Scottish manufacturer rich in history and backed by years of experience, Bute is well known for its high-quality fabric made from rich natural fibres, predominantly focusing on wool. Founded in 1947 by the 5th Marquess of Bute, this mill originally served the purpose of providing employment opportunities for service people returning from World War II. Located in the Firth of Clyde, the Bute mill is surrounded by rolling hills, wild forests, sweeping beaches, as well as an ever-changing seascape. These landscapes play a huge role in each design, influencing patterns, colours, and textures. Imagery of these beautiful natural scenes are often woven into their designs from CAD to handloom, creating bold, bright and contemporary fabrics that are due to withstand the test of time, aesthetically and physically.
